Shophouse project
term 3,

we were put in groups and assigned a shophouse to measure and draw the design plans, sections, elevations, roof plans and location map.
this project helped me learn to work with others better and be a better team player.
i was incharge of doing the measurements of the shophouse.
Being the 1 incharge means, giving jobs to others. this was hard! because im not used to being the one doing that sort of job. nevertheless, i took on the job and responsibility quite well. but it was mainly because of the great team member i had around me. everyone did their part and participated in all areas of the entire project.
while doing this project, i realise i'm weaker in drawing autocad drawings than drawing or manually doing things.
so! i have to practice practice practice!

...........3 weeks holiday........

During the holiday, we were told to create a mood box.
a mood box is a way to show our concept of design.
The purpose of doing this was for our next project

The shophouse we've used in the earlier porject is now to become the soon to be home for the designer we chose for TOD's project. Mine was, Stella McCartney. She's fashion designer.
Basically we have to study their style/signature design style and translate their style into the shophouse.

The moodbox.
My first attempt

Rejected.why? To me, i didnt really understand Stella as a person enough.i concentrated too much on her works alone. What i did was, i made the moodbox look like it's designed for an old person. There was Nothing modern, hip and happening at all which was who Stella was. It was more flowy..Very soft and gentle place. More suitable for a Yoga space. haha.
During the consultation, Kelly mentioned a stretchable material, Stockings.

Second attempt.

I made two small moodboxes to show the lecturer and ask for an opinion on which one he thinks is better. During the consultation, Kelly worked with the second mini moodbox and stretched the material(stocking) as much as he could and pinnedit down. Suddenly the concept/idea jumped into my face. i knew that that was the exact style Stella was and that i was going for.

Finally the approved moodbox. haha. Elaine suggested that i played with colours. eg, black.
and i agreed. Having a house which is fully beach and brown would be dull and too soft toned. a little touch of fierce and loud colours would help alot. furthermore, the house is supposed to be for Stella AND her HUSBAND.

First attempt.

For my first attempt, I used cardboards to show the "stretch" and tension of the ceiling to the walls and floors. That idea did not work very well. because it did not show how incredible the material stockings are. How flexible/stretchable and workable they are.
So i started to use the chosen material(stockings) on the spot!! for our first try to do the mockup, we were instructed to show the concept of the shophouse.

Basically the idea and style for my design scheme is to create a space which communicates with its whole surrounding. meaning, linking the walls to the ceilings even the furnitures.

colours used would me nude. This evokes Stella's style and personality.

and the house potrays Stella's style of design and personality. it's sexy, feminine, sensual and modern. It fits her very well.
Once accepted, we had to move on to make it a reality(workable/possible/realworld) by adding staircases and floors.

Now that that's done.. i had to move on to make the FINAL model. this was a difficult task because i liked my final mock up design.. but it's almost impossible to get the exact same design again due to the material im using. it's hard to know how much material to use to be able to stretdh it to get the same design as my mock up. i did the best i could. and we were told that we couldnt have any glue stains on the our final model.. but it was very very hard for me to make that possible. it's hard using fabric as a material. but it was a alot of fun and i discovered interesting spaces while working with them.

Now, everything's done! all the sleepless nights are over. and im hoping they'll pay off. :)

term 2

i didnt update my blog for my term 2 works. SORRY! XD
but im doing it now. im going to update evrything in this post. hopefully!

ok.. when we started term 2... we started with some drawing lessons.. and then... the on going projects started. ferst was onthography. our director.. jeffery taught this to us.. it was actually just a...DONT THINK JUST DRAW kinda thing.. lol.. sounds easy rite. but it was kinda tiring. coz i didnt noe when to stop. it just went on n on way pass midnight. lol.. but it was so much fun. i didnt noe "doodling" could be art pieces. XD

this is 1 of my ontho drawings.

next was tessalation time! we had to pick an area of our ontho drawing which we thought was interesting and nice. then we had to draw grid lines over it and redrew to create another design.. but! not to loose the concept of our ontho drawing.

rotate the template 16 times and 3 diff waes.

these are my tessalations! XD we had to do three of them. colours,tone and patterns.

from this.. we make a relativity model and 3 mock up models.. basically this whole project circulated around eshers' concept.

and finally.. our biggest project arrived.. deng! deng! deng....!

we must create a 400m x 400m x 400m labyrinth! hahahx. this was super stressing and fun... but i think overall.. if given more time.. i culd have done more! coz i just dunno when to end.

two days ago i had my crit. whoa... it was scary.. 7 lecturers... staring at u.. giving u that unpleased look. even if they smiled.. it was a little 1! but.... i tried to hang in there... and just present my work... i had no regrets... though i culd have ans some of the questions better. but it was ok i guess... nevertheless... im happi with what i've done. XD it was i good semester! cnt wait to see what's in store for us next sem! XD happy hols ID!

russian dolls

the biggest project we had this term was the russian dolls. i practically didnt sleep doing this project. lol. and my room was a mess! i just culdnt clean it. haha. nevertheless! all teh hard werk n sweat paid off. it was my ferst time handling clay but i think it was a good try XD

from what i've experienced playing with clay... i have to stress that u have to be patience when u wanna use clay! seriously. i almost gave up doing my biggest doll. the first layer was a disaster. it was almost like a broken bee hive.the next day, i decided to work on what i left with the day before. it was then that i realised, it takes time n patience to get the shape u want when playing with clay.

anw! the picture above shows how my dolls work. remove the head and u're able to bring out teh smaller one.

those are my dolls! huge! i noe! hahax. well..my concept was babies. XD and the size of the dolls are in order of how the kind of emotions i show. the bigger it is, the more of it is in me. the biggest 1 is looney-peaceful-bubbly-angry.. XD and that book u see there, thats my peek a book! im not very happy with the book. i noe i culd have done a better job. but time wasnt on my side. i didnt manage my time very well. but it was ok.. i guess.. lol..

it was a great experience! a whole lots of ups and downs. but worth it!

in-class activity

we did quite a number of in-class activity. i feel that these drawing classes that we have on mondays really do help me improve and be more confident in my drawing techniques.

we had to build a sculpture using wire. it was tedious! lol. we had to combine 3 basic shapes and make them 1. they were, sphere,cube and a pyramid. :) we also had to draw on acrylic sheets, drawing of our partner. i drew riha.

we actually had to hold up the acrylic and trace our friend's it was very difficult for me. lol. it's harder than it sounds. but still fun. we n riha laughed so much while tracing each other.

PIONG PONG crazy!

i havent been updating my log in awhile. lol. we were so so busy with projects. we did quite alot. i'll try to recall as much as i can over here.

after the emotion drawings we did.. we had to transfer our designs onto ping pongs! it was a challenge becoz we had to decide on how we're gonna transfer a 2d drawing onto a ball. but it was a fun experience! we didnt have to do only 20 though... we had to design 40 ping pongs! lol!

thats my 40 designed ping pongs! do u see a buddha,goofy and grumpy over there?!?! hehe!

my 4 emotions!

whoa... this project was a very long 1!! hahahax. firstly, we had to draw out 4 of our emotions in 5 diff themes. and i thought that was it! hahax.. but wait till u get what was in store for us! we had to draw those 20 drawing we did on ping pong balls! i think we're all scared of ping pongs now. lol. anw. after doing that, we had to do another 20! hahax. so total, 40!!! whoa.. i've nvr seen that many balls in life. XD
but it was so much fun.. the sleepless nitez.. dirty hands..and evrything. lol. but im quite happy with what i've made. they're now with kelly. he's grading them. so... i cnt get pics of them. but!! i do have pics of my ferst 20 balls. well.. not the balls. just the drawings. lol!

my 4 emotions were LOONEY,ANGRY,PEACEFUL & BUBBLY! WHEE!! hehehe!

the ferst theme is icons. i picked spongebob for bubbly! i just adore his happy2 personality and he's always smiling. obviously grumpy's from snow white XD. dory from finding nemo expressed my looney emotion! she's just s funny and her crazy personality makes me to looney when i watch her. lastly.. i picked a buddha for peaceful. :)

the next theme was patterns! those irregular squares expressed looney for me. the round flowers for bubbly. the pencil dotted shading for peaceful and the other for angry.

third theme, colours! i liked this one. it was fun to mix and match diff colours to make them express ur emotions. purple,pink,yellow-looney, blue,white-bubbly ,pink,white-peaceful and black,green-angry. the black n green 1 dont look like black n green from here. i dont noe why. lol.

the fourth theme was objects. heart-shaped shades for looney, bubble gum for bubbly, seashell for peaceful.. i picked seashell becoz i just love the sound of the ocean when u listen to them.. and seashell reminds me of the beautiful relaxing beach! lastly... small puzzle pieces for angry! i get so frustrated when i have to deal with those small puzzle pieces.. especially when i loose them!

and the last theme!! materials. those colourful party wires was for looney! bubble wraps for bubbly XD my poor teddy bear fur! for peaceful and aluminium for angry. if u look closely, tle aluminium has a jaggered and rough surface that;s why i picked that! XD thats all!! hope u liked my entry!! da da!

yesterdae's lesson made me think alot about what kinda designer am i gonna be. will i work really hard for all my projects n ensure that its a work worth to be proud of?

although yesterdae's lesson was just 4 hours of presentations from all, evrything the lecturers said n commented meant alot for us as a designer to be. n 1 thing kelly said which was impt to me... was... when he said.. dont trash ur work.

it made me realise the importance of a designer to be confident and proud of their own work.. i mean... even if we're not very happy with our overall result of a certain project or work, we have to be able to sell it. if not... we're at the losing end. so if we trash our own work, no one's gonna look,listen or buy them. now, that's bad news!

anw! presentation time was fun. lol. some were short, some had loads of excuses(lol), some had confidence,some didnt. but i think it was a good ferst try for all! XD

i snapped them while some of the students were presenting. and the other while our lecturer was giving his comments on some of the works.

brick betty boop!

yey!!! i've completed my doubled-sized-betty boop-brickboy version!!!!

hehehehehe! pretty happy with the complete look.

loads of colouring! now my black pencil colour left half. hahax. shows how much force i put in when colouring. hahax. i dont noe if its a good or bad thing tough. when i first start to colour... whoa.... loads of effort... so i press on hard. but after like 1 hr... when my fingers starts to feel the pain.. i start to colour lightly. so there's like white spots evrywhere. i hate it!!! gotta kick that habit out! if u're doing it to. come! lets kick it together! XD

THAT'S My BRICK BETTY BOOP!!

I tried to play around with the hands but there was some limitations. coz the head and the hands are quite big. so i culdnt really twist them around. BUT!!! it culd be done hahahhax. only that i prefer not to. nevertheless. im happy with my work. XD I hope u and to lecturers will be too! hehe! anw!!! if u were wondering where my "inspiration" came from... its was from this pic!

ferst day of sch.

today, was the first day of school.

the ferst dae we actually started on a module. lessons time!!

suprisingly, we did quite alot todae XD FUN!FUN!

The first part of the day.... we started out drawing 2D drawings. we were told to pick an object in the studio and draw it in diff. views and details.

thats's my drawings of diff parts of my FAKE anna sui purse. hehehheheheheh!

i picked my purse. i knew it had loads of details. i wanted to do alot with it. but didnt get the chance to. lol. coz we had time limit. time management is VERY IMPT!! that was sumthing i learnt. haha. divide ur time for all the parts and plan properly..

after lunch... the next lesson was to create a brickboy! this time... its 3D. so we had to cut paper.. glue parts together and we created our very own...

BRICKBOY!!!

it was alot of fun! really. hahax. and next week.. we have to double up the size and create a personal brickboy.

im thinking of creating BRICK LILO! but its so gonna be hard! haha! i wanna go look for more unique cartoon characters. :D
